The rigid sturdy stalks that grow from the center of the plant are topped by fragrant blooms of dark violet bearded flowers with white near the beard first in late spring and again in summer then fall, attracting bees. Flowers best in full sun and rich, slightly acidic, moist well drained soils. Type:
